LONDON: Piers Morgan has branded John Simpson a 鈥減ompous old prune鈥� after the veteran BBC reporter described his interview with Donald Trump as 鈥渟pineless.鈥�
The Twitter storm follows an interview conducted by the 鈥楪ood Morning Britain鈥� host at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
BBC World Affairs Editor Simpson was less than impressed by the exchange.
He tweeted: 鈥淭he art of the political interview, Piers, is to push your interviewee hard 鈥� not let them spout self-evident tosh. That鈥檚 just showbiz.鈥�
Morgan hit back by saying: 鈥淭he BBC led on revelations from my interview all Friday morning, and Andrew Marr said yesterday it had made real news. So it would appear you鈥檙e the one spouting tosh, you pompous old prune.鈥�
Simpson concluded: 鈥淧ompous, probably. Old, undeniably. Prune, quite possibly. But I don鈥檛 enjoy watching spineless political interviews.鈥�
